Despite the Edmonton Oilers losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers, McDavid's individual brilliance earned him the prestigious award.

First Conn Smythe for Losing Team Since 2003

McDavid's Conn Smythe win is the first time since 2003 that the trophy has been awarded to a member of the losing team. The last player to achieve this feat was Jean-Sebastien Giguere of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
